THE PHYSICS HOUSE BAND CALYPSO

Any band that have a foreword to their EP written by cult comedian Stewart Lee has our attention. Scratch past that stroke of genius and The Physics House Band are a force of their own. Sitting between prog, psych and krautrock, there is little we can say that can convey the vibrating energy of the clamouring sounds in lead single 'Calypso'. Utilising vintage synths for retro added craziness, there is a spiral into the relentless as each wave of sounds pushes the track onwards until it burns out entirely. Taken from the Mercury Fountain EP, out 21st April via Small Pond Records and named after a sculpture by Alexander Calder, we were right to put our faith in Stewart Lee's taste. For live dates and to read Mr Lee's forward, go check them out for yourselves. - SJ
